Ana Stefanovic

Ana is a Serbian photographer who finds inspiration in people and their daily events. In this way Ana portrays friends and strangers alike in a casual and relaxed way, creating charming images that resemble the stills of a prolonged film. Which in turn we can relate to memory, because these stills are in general what we remember of our own lives.

First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please introduce yourself for us?

Hello my name is Ana and I’m from Serbia. I studied at the Faculty of Arts, Department of Music.

How did you start in photography?

Photography has been present in my life since early childhood. My father was an amateur photographer, he even had his own darkroom in our family vacation house and several film cameras of different formats, so at first I was in front and later during high school behind the camera. Maybe that’s where my love for self-portraits comes from. First I started with a digital camera and later with my dad's good old Pentax K2, which I still use today.

What inspires your work?

I am inspired by the people and the environment in which they find themselves. I often take photos of my friends whether they are at home or if we are traveling somewhere together. I am inspired by female beauty in every way and when I meet an interesting person, it's just natural for me to ask her to take a photo of her. In my work you can often see people I have only met once but we have somehow established that intimate connection and trust.

What are your career plans for the future?

I would like to work with a fashion brand, to shoot professional models. I also run a blog about photography and I would love for it to grow into an online magazine.

Who are your favourite photographers / artists?

There are plenty that I admire, but I've been following the work of Martina Matencio, Matthias Heiderich and Mario Pucic for a while.

What is your favourite photo book?

My favorite book is 'Vivian Maier: The Color Work'.

Thank you very much for your time and contribution to analog magazine.
