Gabriele is a young Italian photographer and artist who focuses his work on the ‘language of the body’, exploring in this way people’s feelings and their existence. In his black and white images we can find an honest raw style infused with spontaneity and youth that transports us to our essence and makes us reflect about our paths in this life.

First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please introduce yourself for us?

I’m Gabriele Rosati 20 years old from Florence, art lover. After my studies at the Art School Virgilio Empoli based on painting and sculpture, I decided to specialise in photography and this year I attended a Masters in an academy called APAB, Florence. I love films and I usually shoot using disposable cameras because I think it’s more intimate than the digital camera I use for work-commissions. My dream is to get myself lost in a dangerous dance with art which I consider as an infinity process on me.

How did you start in photography?

I really started being interested in photography two/three years ago thanks to my friend Francesco who showed me his reportage works. It was like a little trip inside him, in which I always said my opinion about his images. I was maybe immature, but he liked listening to me because I was a painter and he constantly asked me for a different point of view from a different art field.

What inspires your work?

I definitely love the language of the body which can be totally changed by [observing] different points of view that are based on my research of my own personal identity. This process of research is constantly going on through lots of impulses that I find or receive in my daily-life, it could be walking from the station to the academy, smoking a cigarette in a bar, having coffee with an unknown. I try to take from all people the feeling of “exists in a space”. A space that starts from the inside passing through the existence of people and coming out as an imaginary world in which I love losing myself creating a new idea of human body.

Who are your favourite photographers / artists?

Well, I love Modigliani. He’s everything I try to find in the eyes of people. As for photographers, I’m inspired by Diana Arbus and Nan Goldin’s pics that are dirty of something that give me a truth in which I loose myself.

How would you describe your photographs in 3 words?

Dirty, real and intimate.

When you are not taking pictures, what do you do?

I go to vintage markets, buy things that then I never wear when I’m at home. I draw. I buy lots of sunglasses that I often loose after two days. I love spending time with my friends and dancing with them.

If you could travel and stay in a place for one year, where would you choose to go?

Definitely London.

What’s your favourite movie?

‘Annie Hall’ by Woody Allen.

What are you reading at the moment?

‘Sleep’ by Murakami on which I’m gonna base my final project for the Academy mixing with a research on the acne.
