Gloria is a young actress and filmmaker currently based in Germany. Her poetic photographs are the reflection of her cinematic interests, offering in this way expressive images that resemble film stills and reveal fascinating narratives. Following we want to present an interview we had with Gloria: am - First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please tell us where are you from and what do you do at the moment? GEO- My name is Gloria, I am an actress and aspiring filmmaker, currently living between Berlin and Hamburg, where I study Fine Arts. am - What inspires your work? GEO - Random and not so random things that touch me and that I’m unable to articulate otherwise - interpersonal encounters, identity issues, trying to recapture memories . am - Your images resemble chronicles and fairy tales, is this intentional? GEO - I am indeed very inspired by and collect fairy tales and fables from all over the world - I’m intrigued by their symbolism, their dream-like reflection of the human subconscious, their brutality and romanticism. am - Who are your favourite photographers / artists? GEO - Julia Margaret Cameron, Nobuyoshi Araki, Nan Goldin, Juergen Teller. Old favourites include the Vienna Secession artists (especially Egon Schiele), the Pre-Raphaelites, Elizabeth Peyton, Balthus, am - How would you describe your photographs in 3 words? GEO - hiding / revealing / volatile am - What are 5 things you could absolutely not live without? GEO - I currently can’t live without: my boyfriend / my friends / my family / caffeine / my favourite Korean sunscreen. am -If you could travel and stay in a place for one year, where would you choose to go? GEO - Paris or Tokyo! am - Favourite songs / bands at the moment? GEO - During spring and early summer, I always listen to a lot of Nara Leão, Françoise Hardy. I’m currently also into Tess Parks, The Soft Moon, Lebanon Hanover and I can’t wait for the new Bat For Lashes album “The Bride”. am - What’s your favourite movie? GEO - I recently saw MUSTANG by Deniz Gamze Ergüven at the cinema and absolutely loved it - I’m so excited to see what the director does next! I’ve recently also loved everything written&directed by Céline Sciamma. All-time faves include films by Catherine Breillat and Chantal Akerman, La Double Vie de Véronique (directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski), Picnic at Hanging Rock (directed by Peter Weir) and Three Women (directed by Robert Altman). am - Thank you very much for your time and your contribution to analog magazine.
