First of all thank you very much for your contribution to our project. Can you please introduce yourself for us?

I am a photographer based in Lisbon that likes creating visual poetry with my pictures. I have a bachelor's degree in Cinema, which got me showcased in several national and international festivals, a highlight was 2017 'O Descanso na Intensidade das Cores - Resting in the Intensity of Colors' that premiered at DocLisboa. Also a nice surprise to me was last year's success of my TV debut 'Olá, como te sentes - Hello, how are you feeling?' on RTP (Rádio Televisão Portuguesa) a 5 episode Animation series. In photography, I won the 'Sophia Award' for Best Movie Poster for my loving companion directorial debut, and hopefully I'll make my first exhibition this year.

My inspiration comes from all the little things in life that we let escape like a butterfly. I vow to encapsulate the atmosphere into a feeling of infinity, blending elements of nature, the naked body and the primal instinct. I am naturally inclined to portraying mostly quiet and reflective characters loaded with emotions bubbling under the surface. My mantra is to let creativity flow without any borders or strict rules. The bond with Nature is a symbol of freedom, delivery and surrender through solitude and allow us to see our clear reflection in the surroundings.

How did you start in photography?

When I was only 9 years old my father, also a photographer, gave me a camera and it quickly became my favorite toy ever since. Since a young age I lived in many places like Portugal, Spain, Macau, USA and Germany. I think that photography was revealing and instinctive, and a way for me to capture the memories that each place and culture transmitted to me.

How do you approach your work? What do you try to capture in your images?

The connection between mankind as a whole and nature is inalienable and essential. It is often called the "Art of Coexistence". I find myself in a trial-and-error process of fancying the most naturalistic point of a human pose, of a composition, of a color palette. I am amused by the idea of recreating a place on a frame without losing its natural state. It often feels like a dance, finding a rhythm of shifting power and control and being lost in the moment.

Who are your favourite photographers / artists?

There are plenty that I admire, but I would say that one of my favourites is definitely Ryan McGinley.

What is your favourite movie?

I can't actually say what my favourite movies of all time are, because that's a list that changes constantly as I watch more movies. Maybe it’s easier to tell you what my favourite directors are: Naomi Kawase, Tony Gatlif, David Lynch, Wong Kar-Wai, Bergman, Herzog, Spike Jonze and finally Richard Linklater.

What is your favourite photo book?

In Focus: Andre Kertesz - Photographs From the J.Paul Getty Museum.

Thank you very much for your time and contribution to analog magazine.
